Axel Brauns (born 1963) is a very talented German writer and filmmaker. Among other books he wrote an autobiography called Buntschatten und Fledermäuse – Leben in einer anderen Welt (Coloured Shadows and Bats – Living in Another World) which spans the years 1965-1983 and presents his view of the world growing up as a person with Asperger's Syndrome. The book reached the bestseller list of Der Spiegel in 2002. In 2003 Axel was nominated for the Deutscher Bücherpreis in the category "Most successful debut".
